Freelance Mountain Leader

A day in the hills for Mind Over Mountains ©

I’ve lost track of when exactly I first started hillwalking — or should it be hiking? But, whenever it was, I know it was in my early twenties. That’s over 35 years ago now!

Since first qualifying as a leader in 2017, I’ve worked with a number of outdoor activity companies on a freelance basis. This has included working with mixed adult and family groups on leisure walks for public-facing providers; training, supervision and assessment on Duke of Edinburgh Expedition programmes, corporate challenge and charity walks (Y3P, Nine Edges, Edale Skyline). I’ve also delivered navigation training for students on BTEC Uniformed Services programmes and mentored deferred Mountain Training candidates with their navigation.

As well as my Mountain Training qualifications (HMLML), I hold the NNAS Tutor Award, naturally maintain an Outdoor First Aid qualification and have an Enhanced DBS (via the Update Service). I also have the appropriate DofE approvals and certification.

Being based on the border between Cheshire (East) and Greater Manchester, I am only 30~45 minutes from the main hot spots of the Peak District National Park and with access to the national motorway network (M56, M60, M6) only two miles from my front door, I can easily cover the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Howgill Fells, Forest of Bowland, North Pennines and Lake District fells – all areas I’ve good experience with.

If you are looking for additional freelance staff for your team or a specific booking, please do get in touch, I’m open to chatting to discuss details and fees.
